Our story.
Comedy for a Cause was founded in January 2013 by Mat Wakefield. The spark came a few years earlier, while Mat was volunteering as events manager at the 40K Foundation between 2009 and 2010. He put on a comedy night to raise money — and it went off. That one night planted an idea that would become a company: comedy isn’t just entertainment, it’s one of the best fundraising tools going.
That idea became Comedy for a Cause, built to help not-for-profits raise money in a way that’s fun, efficient and genuinely entertaining. As pioneers of comedy fundraising in Australia, we’ve spent over a decade refining the craft — and grown into the country’s largest and most trusted comedy fundraising company.
